How Do I Get Help?
- Reach Out. Call the Domestic Violence Service Center 24-hour Hotline at (570) 823-7312 or 1-800-424-5600 for immediate and confidential counseling by highly trained Counselor/Advocates.
- File for a Protection From Abuse (PFA) Order. In Luzerne County, the paperwork for filling for a PFA may be obtained from the PFA Office located on the Second Floor of the Luzerne County Courthouse, 200 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre. The phone number for the Luzerne County PFA Office is (570) 826-3032. In Carbon County, the paperwork to file a PFA can be obtained from the Prothonotary’s Office which is located on the First Floor of the Carbon County Courthouse in Jim Thorpe. The phone number of the Carbon County Prothonotary’s Office is (570)-325-2841.
- Find Shelter. If you feel you are not safe, go to the home of a friend, neighbor or someone in your family. Or you can contact DVSC’s Emergency Shelter by calling the 24-hour Hotline at 1-800-424-5600 for immediate assistance.
- Seek Counseling. Counseling can help you realize you are not to blame for the violence in your home. Counseling can also help you know what constitutes a healthy relationship, rebuild your self esteem, become empowered and self-sufficient.
